Just why Cantu, who has helped Clinton earn hundreds of thousands in campaign contributions since her first senatorial campaign in 1999, went on the trip is unclear.
When reached by cell phone in El Salvador Monday afternoon, Cantu said that he was unable to speak at the time and would be available for comment later this week.
“I can’t talk, I’m in a meeting,” he said.
Aha! A meeting. We thought as much. So he’s not just there for drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Of course, “I’m in a meeting” is also the oldest and most unimaginative way to get rid of a reporter.
